For most of his career, Steve was the ideal health plan member—never sick, never hospitalized. That changed when, as one doctor put it, “the warranty ran out.”

His firsthand experience navigating a complex, opaque healthcare delivery and financing system transformed him into a patient advocate, exposing the barriers individuals face in accessing care they need at a cost they can afford.

Steve was recently appointed as a Fellow at the new Frist College of Medicine where he will advise the Department of Health Systems Science in training the next generation of physicians and pharmacists in the business of healthcare. His first project is examining the PBM industry and employer pharmacy benefits to identify ways to improve compliance, cost effectiveness, and clinical outcomes.

As a senior executive and consultant, Steve has helped healthcare organizations develop innovative solutions to improve value, quality, and cost efficiency. His experience includes working across the healthcare ecosystem—including employers, health plans, health systems, physician groups, medtech firms, and digital health startups.

Now, Steve combines his deep industry expertise with hard-earned personal insights to help employers, fiduciaries, and patients take control of healthcare costs, challenge wasteful spending, and secure better outcomes.
