Millicent Gorham, PhD (Hon), MBA, FAAN, currently serves as the inaugural CEO of the Alliance for Women’s Health and Prevention (AWHP), a role she assumed in March 2023. Prior to this, she played a pivotal role as the chair of AWHP's board of directors since its inception in October 2022. Millicent is also the former executive director of the National Black Nurses Association, Inc., where she represented 308,000 African American nurses across the United States for over 27 years, beginning in October 1995.
With more than 35 years of experience in government relations, Millicent has served in various influential roles, including health legislative assistant to Representative Louis Stokes (D-OH), coordinator of the Congressional Black Caucus Health Brain Trust, assistant director of government relations for the American Optometric Association, and director of government relations for the National Rural Health Association.
Millicent has been recognized with numerous awards, such as the National Black Nurses Association 2022 Lifetime Achievement Award and the American Academy of Nursing 2020 Outstanding Leadership Award. She holds an honorary doctorate from Simmons College and an MBA with a concentration in health services from Howard University. Millicent's extensive contributions to healthcare and advocacy continue to impact communities nationwide.
