James Comer was elected to Congress in 2016 to represent Kentucky's 1st Congressional District, covering 35 counties from the Mississippi River to Central Kentucky. He currently serves as the Chairman of the House Committee on Oversight and Accountability, where he is committed to reducing waste, fraud, and abuse in government.

Comer grew up in Monroe County and studied agriculture at Western Kentucky University before purchasing his own farm. He entered public service in 2000, serving six terms in the Kentucky House of Representatives. His hard work and conservative values earned him recognition as National Republican Freshman Legislator of the Year during his first term.

In 2011, Comer was elected as Kentucky's Commissioner of Agriculture. He worked in a bipartisan way to address scandals, improve efficiency, and support Kentucky farmers. After being elected to Congress, Comer continued advocating for rural economies and agricultural policies, including serving on the 2018 Farm Bill Conference Committee.

Comer has also championed legislation on school meal access during the COVID-19 pandemic, reauthorization of the Older Americans Act, and child abuse prevention. He is committed to reducing government waste and increasing transparency. Comer and his wife TJ have three children: Reagan, Harlan, and Aniston.
