The Osteoarthritis Action Alliance (OAAA) is a national public health coalition committed to improving lives by elevating osteoarthritis (OA) as a national health priority and leading the dissemination of innovative evidence-based solutions. Nine strategies in the OA Agenda promote evidence-based, self-management programs and behaviors for the prevention and management of OA and assure equity in access and delivery of interventions that improve management of OA. The OAAA effectively serves as the public health voice to translate evidence-based research and clinical care standards and outcomes from leading member organizations such as the American College of Rheumatology, the Osteoarthritis Research Society International, leading societies in orthopaedics and sports medicine, and others into actionable strategies, educational information, tools, and resources for policymakers at all levels, employers, community-based organization leaders, healthcare systems and providers, and diverse individuals with OA and their caregivers. Mobilized originally by the Arthritis Foundation, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and a multitude of stakeholders, the OA Action Alliance has operated through the Thurston Arthritis Research Center at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill since 2014.
