Dr. Wayne Rawlins is the chief medical officer of the National Alliance of Healthcare Purchaser Coalitions, where he leads the Medical Director Advisory Council and has served on key advisory groups focused on COVID-19 response and health equity. He recently completed a term as an external member of the Alliance’s Board of Governors.
A nationally recognized expert in health equity, vaccine policy, and employer health strategy, Dr. Rawlins is a “NEXTpert” with HealthNEXT—a select group of chief medical and health officers committed to helping employers build evidence-based cultures of health and well-being. He is also a member of the NCQA Committee on Performance Measurement, overseeing the development of HEDIS, one of healthcare’s most widely used quality improvement tools.
Dr. Rawlins previously served as vice president and chief medical officer at ConnectiCare and held senior clinical leadership roles at Aetna. He was also the Senior Clinical Advisor at WellSpark Health, where he helped shape the company’s health and wellness strategy. He served on the National Vaccine Advisory Committee, advising the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services on national vaccine policy, and is recognized as a subject matter expert in vaccine financing. His work in health equity includes leading initiatives to reduce disparities in underserved populations and serving on multiple national committees addressing racial and social determinants of health.
Dr. Rawlins is a member of the Washington Health Alliance’s Quality Improvement Committee and served more than a decade on the board of UConn Health, his medical alma mater. He earned his medical degree from the University of Connecticut, completed his internal medicine residency and chief residency at the University of Rochester, and holds an MBA from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Board certified in internal medicine, he practiced primary care for over 10 years.
