Wade M. Aubry, M.D. is Clinical Professor of Medicine and Health Policy at UCSF, where he focuses on technology assessment, adoption, and coverage of emerging health care interventions. He is a practicing endocrinologist in San Francisco and has served as Chief of Staff at Saint Francis Hospital.
Dr. Aubry has also served as Medicare Medical Director in California and as Senior Vice President and Chief Medical Officer for Blue Shield of California, a large BCBS Plan. In both roles, he was responsible for developing coverage policies on new drugs, devices, diagnostics, and services. He chaired the national BCBSA Technology Assessment Committee for 6 years and then served on the CMS Medicare Coverage Advisory Committee for an additional 6 years. Dr. Aubry is a graduate of Stanford and the UCLA School of Medicine, with postgraduate training at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. He has numerous publications to his credit and served on several national health care advisory committees for NIH, AHRQ, the National Academy of Medicine, the Joint Commission, and the National Committee for Quality Assurance.
